本国UKのオーガナイザーDavid TGがこの度Torture Gardenを去ることになりました。
TGアイコン、オーガナイザーとしてのトーチャーガーデンジャパンへの来日は今回で最後となります。3月16日(土)Torture Garden Japan 2019 Spring Ballが皆さまにとってDavidにとって素晴らしいパーティーとなりますように。
下記、David TGからのメッセージです。
「私はトーチャーガーデンを引退し、ニューヨークへ移ります」
私は、新しい人生、新しい仕事、そして新しい冒険の為にこの夏ニューヨークに移るという大きな決断をしました。 私は2019年5月末にトーチャーガーデンのディレクターを引退します。
今後、もしかしたら ニューヨークでトーチャーガーデンを開催する際に協力することもあるかもしれませんし、またトーチャーガーデンの本やビデオなどの仕事をするかもしれませんが、全体的にはもうトーチャーガーデンイベントには関わりません。
ニューヨークへ移ることにしたのは、ほとんどは個人的な理由ですが、多分、そのうち必要になれば理由はもっと明らかになるでしょう。
TGイベントは今では年間24回以上開催しているので、それは毎年160以上のショーを行なうということで、それがサイクルになっていて、私は燃え尽きたように感じました。
今までに37の都市で520回のTorture Gardenイベントを開催したと思います。
624,000人の参加者がいて、私は3120のショーを取りまとめました。自分はやりきったと思います。
私にとってトーチャーガーデンはただの仕事や職業ではありませんでした。私の生活、人生のすべてでした。
特にFacebookがDavid TGという名前を使うことを禁じて、本名のDavid Woodとして活動するようになってからは、自分のパーソナルな面にも影響が出てきました。
私は自分の心と魂のすべてをそこに注ぎ込んだのです。
毎月、毎年、エキサイティングで新鮮でいることをキープしなくてはならず、それはまるでまな板の上に頭を置かれていたようでした。
今、私はトーチャーガーデンに私のすべてをささげたと感じています。私はずっと継続できるコンセプトとフォーマットをつくりました。
私は、私が去ってもトーチャーガーデンがずっと成功し、トップでい続けることができるようにした事を誇りに思います。
個人のオーガナイザーがというよりも、トーチャーガーデンそのものが常に成長しています。
素晴らしい来場者たちがトーチャーガーデンに参加することによってコンセプトがつくられたのです。
なので、どうかトーチャーガーデンの新しさを保ってください。
皆さんが未来のトーチャーガーデンになってください。
トーチャーガーデンは私が抜けたり、現在の会場から変わったとしても続きます。
私はまだコンセプトの中にまだまだ探し途中の何かがあると信じています。
(身体的変化やセクシュアリティ、そしてファンタジーなど)
これまでと同じくらい最新で、 新しいクリエイティブな世代が生まれ、 イベントに参加することによってそれぞれ自分たちが自分たちのイベントを作ってくれるでしょう。
うまくいけば、これから新しいアイデアも出てくるでしょう。
でも、あなたのトーチャーガーデンの経験はこれまでと同じくらい良いままであるべきです。
Allen TGと私が1990年にクラブでトーチャーガーデンのアイデアを思いついたとき、私たちはそれは6ヶ月くらい続くかなとしか考えていませんでした。
私たちが28年以上もビジネスパートナーとなったのは驚きです。
私たちは常にまったく違う性格で、それがトーチャーガーデンの強みでした。
二人でなければ今のトーチャーガーデンにはなりませんでした。
私たちの関係は長い間家族以上のものでした。
Charlotte とRiki(後から入ったスタッフ)でさえ、Charlotteは16年、Rikiは20年私たちと一緒に働いています。
良いときも悪いときも、一緒に乗り越えてくれたこと感謝しています。
そして、すべてのお客様、スタッフ、世界各国でトーチャーガーデンを開催してくれた皆さん、素晴らしいパフォーマーたち、デザイナーたち、アーティスト、DJたち、本当にありがとうございました。
世界で一番最高の仕事でした。
最高の来場者たちと最高のパフォーマーと共に世界で一番最高のイベントで一番最高のナイトライフをつくることができました。
それにより世界中に行くことができて私は本当に幸運でした。
夢のような生活でした。
でも私は今は別の人生を求めています。

David TG is going to leave from Torture Garden in this May.
It will be last TG JAPAN night for David as the icon of TG.
Here is the message from David.
I’M LEAVING TORTURE GARDEN & MOVING TO NEW YORK:
I’ve made the big decision to move to New York in the summer for a new life, a new business and new adventures. As a result I will cease being a director and partner of Torture Garden events at the end of May 2019.
I may co-organise an annual TG New York event and I may work on TG archive projects such as future books / videos, but overall I will no longer be involved in TG events.
Whilst I’m mostly moving for personal reasons, perhaps you manifest change when you need it.
As TG events increased to 24+ per year, meaning 160+ shows (with 5 massive Coronet events in 2017) it became a relentless cycle and I’ve felt burnt out.
I estimate we’ve staged 520 Torture Garden events in 37 cities all around the world in 28 + years and I’ve been at 500 of them. There’s been 624,000 attendees and I’ve curated 3120 shows! I think I’ve done my bit!
Torture Garden has never been just a business or a job that you could turn off. It was our whole life and our 2nd names until Facebook made us change that! It was a direct reflection of my personality & taste, and I put my heart & soul into its content. It was my head on the chopping block to keep it fresh and exciting month after month and year after year.
I now feel that I’ve given TG all I can give and personally I’ve taken the concept and format as far as I can in the current dynamic. I’m proud that I leave it still as successful as ever and still top of the tree.
The TG concept has always been bigger than any individual organiser, and ultimately the crowd and those who participate make TG what it is.
So get involved and keep TG fresh, edgy and current. Become the TG of the future.
TG will continue without me and despite current venue challenges I still believe there’s plenty of life left in the concept of exploring bodily transformation, sexuality and fantasy. It’s as current as ever and there are still new creative generations getting involved and making the event their own.
For those attending hopefully there’ll be some fresh ideas appearing but generally your TG experience should remain as good as ever.
When Allen and I came up with the idea of the club in 1990 we thought it may last 6 months, so it’s crazy that we’ve been business partners for 28+ years. We were always completely different characters and that was TG’s strength. It wouldn’t have been the same club without the two of us together.
Our relationship is more like a family after so many years, and even Charlotte and Riki have now worked with us for 16 & 20 years.
Thanx to them for putting up with me through all the ups and downs.
Also special thanx to all the freaks who have attended, all the crew, our collaborators around the world, and all the amazing performers, designers, artists & DJs.
It’s been the best job in the world – creating the best club in the world, in the best nightlife city in the world, with the best crowd and performers in the world. I was even lucky enough to travel the world with it. It’s been a dream life. But now I want a different life.
